Various Oblong creative gatherings today (Wednesday) at Woodhouse Community Centre.

The talk and discussion on "what makes a great photo" has been moved to 2pm (by popular request).

The Media Collective will meet at 3pm to discuss new opportunities for volunteering including web, print design, video making and social media marketing.

The brave new video group will meet at 4pm to work out plans for the next big production.

We need media volunteers to take on creative tasks which I hope will be enjoyable and rewarding. In order to help you gain new skills and get to know each other we will be holding some informal talks on Wednesday afternoons from 12.30pm.  The sessions are open to anyone including invited guests.

• Digital Story Tellers:
  Digital media producers with a project manager (video, photography)
• Promotional Journalism:
  Online promoters with an Editor (blog, twitter, facebook, snippets, press releases)

These are some of the suggested topics for Oblong Wednesdays (from 12.30pm).  At each session you will be able to sign up for work on related projects.

Wednesday 9th June at 3pm  Getting Oblong Wednesday's promoted
Join us at 3pm on Wednesday to go through the programme and add your thoughts about what topics we should do.  We also need you to actively promote the sessions by inviting people along to the 12.30 meetings starting next week.

Wednesday 16th May from 12.30pm. What makes a great photo?
Photography has the power to define a generation, tell a story or protect a landscape. What can we learn from photographers like David Bailey, Henri Cartier-Bresson  and Ansel Adams.  Plus, sign up for Oblong photography commissions.

Wednesday 23rd May from 12.30pm. Getting going with flyers.
An introduction to the process of making flyers using Adobe Creative Suite, using pre-prepared templates and a review of our work we have done.  Opportunity to sign up for the Oblong print team.

Wednesday 30th May from 12.30pm. Creating and managing a website
How our own Drupal website works and creating a simple Wordpress site in 15 minutes. opportunity to sign up for the Oblong web team.

Wednesday 6th June from 12.30pm. Social media promotion
How do we promote ourselves using social media?  How do we protect our privacy? Opportunity to sign up for the Oblong social media team.

Local company 'Theatre of the Dales' will be performing "Bottom's Story", a shortened version of a Midsummer Nights Dream, at Woodhouse Community Centre on Monday 30th April at 8.00pm.

It's free, with a collection for the Centre.

This Saturday, 21st April, is the Funday for All organised by one of the Active Citizens groups that have been working with Oblong over the past few months.

Funday for All will be a mixture of stalls and workshops highlighting local projects and activities. There will also be a 60 kazoo salute to celebrate the re-opening of the centre after its £430,000 refurbishment.

Thanks to everyone who helped with the initial DIY work last week, we have some more dates in the diary for ongoing snaggs.....

Wednesday 11th April we will be giving the stairs a couple of coats of paint, more hands make light work etc

Friday 20th April we will be doing some tidying before the fun day and a bit of DIY. Will be lots of things to do from a bit of cooking planning, arts and crafts, tidying, drilling, cleaning and some more painting. As usual all welcome and the more help the better!
